Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The College of Arts and Sciences Advising Center (CASA) is home to academic advising for first year students majoring in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Our advisors support first year students in the College of Arts and Sciences in their transition to a college environment and teach students how to understand and navigate degree requirements, course options, and support services. CASA advisors encourage students to adopt a professional and proactive approach to lifelong learning and empower students to make the most of their education in a complex and changing world.

Position Summary

This position requires advising a case load of approximately 200-220 first year students, teaching 1 CAS class per term, and participating in CASA's advising/recruiting/ and student success initiatives. This position has primary responsibility for planning, organizing, enacting, and evaluating CASA's support of first year student success, which will involve the following responsibilities: serving as the primary point of contact for the Division of Student Success; coordinating CASA's outreach to students experiencing academic difficulty; and developing programs & initiatives to foster a stronger sense of community among the CAS first year cohort. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Minimum Qualifications

* Master's or PhD degree in a College of Arts & Sciences field and academic advising experience at the university level.
* Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
* Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

Good working knowledge of Banner, MS365, and WebFocus

* Maintain regular email communication with entire caseload, sharing time sensitive reminders and updates to facilitate student success.
* Meet individually with every advisee in case load at least once each term.
* Prepare and file accurate and thorough Advising Records.
* Comprehensive & up to date knowledge of all student support services available.
* Comprehensive & up to date knowledge of all CAS curricula.
* Comprehensive & up to date knowledge of all UNCG & CAS policies & procedures impacting students.

Instructional/Student Success Activity

Essential Tasks

* Teach 1 class per term within the General Education Curriculum to stay current with students experiences in the classroom.

* Act as liaison with Division of Student Success to facilitate CASA's contribution to University student Success Initiatives.
* Design, implement, and assess a full team approach to supporting CAS 1st year students who are experiencing academic difficulty.
* Design, implement and assess a full team approach to building a stronger sense of academic community among the first year CAS cohort.
* Serve as a liaison with other student support offices so that our programming complements and supports rather than duplicating other efforts on campus.
