Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University ( CSU ). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

A Public Affairs Specialist position is available with the Colorado State University Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ). This position will provide media and public relations services to the U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii ( USAG -HI) Environmental Division. The position will be located at either Wheeler Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks on Oahu or P?hakuloa Training Area on the island of Hawai?i.

The position will support National Environmental Policy Act/Hawai?i Environmental Policy Act ( NEPA / HEPA ) actions being undertaken by USAG -HI. Responsibilities include developing media messages and strategies; providing recommendations of media sources for placement of campaigns; preparing media materials such as background materials, press releases, speeches and presentations and press kits; executing media programs; scheduling broadcast and/or print interviews; and media alerts and press clipping services related activities to public relations for on-going NEPA / HEPA actions.

The Specialist will also coordinate with an interdisciplinary team at USAG -HI to support development and preparation of briefings, written or oral presentations, fact sheets, articles, brochures, conferences, and program management reviews. They will provide technical (i.e. editorial) expertise to develop environmental documents to support the Environmental Division.

Position is full-time (40 hours/week). Overnight travel may be required. Relocation expenses are not available.

A hybrid schedule of at least 3 days on-site may be available.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Required Job Qualifications

+ Bachelors degree in Environmental Planning, Public Relations, Public Policy, Marketing, or related field.

+ Two or more years of professional experience in public relations/communications.

+ Demonstrated experience developing, coordinating, managing, and evaluating outreach and communications strategies, plans, and activities.

+ Demonstrated technical writing ability, clear communication skills, and attention to detail.

+ A thorough understanding of most standard computer programs, as well as proficiency in database management, SharePoint systems, and Teams.

+ Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license by the employment start date.

+ The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications

+ Masters degree in Environmental Planning, Public Relations, Public Policy, Marketing, or related field.

+ Experience managing and facilitating public meetings, interagency meetings, and hearing processes.

+ Knowledge of NEPA / HEPA and applicable Federal and State environmental laws, Presidential Executives Orders.
