Job DescriptionJob DescriptionNorth Weld County Water District is seeking a pump station maintenance technician. Position Description:
Performing preventative maintenance on pump station equipment in a potable water distribution system. Evaluation of equipment performance and identification of problem areas. Maintain stock inventory and an adequate supply of replacement parts. Perform general maintenance duties in the pump stations, including buildings, grounds and equipment as required.
Principal Responsibilities:
The intent of this list is to be explanatory yet not entirely encompassing as duties may change occasionally.
· Operate assigned pumping stations, inspect for proper system operations and take necessary action to correct abnormal conditions.
· Perform general operational maintenance activities such as filter cleaning, lubrication and pump packing gland adjustments.
· Maintains logs and records of pump station operations and maintenance performed.
· Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems and makes repairs or makes plans and coordinates an outsourced contractor in more severe scenarios.
· Uses SCADA to monitor and respond to emergencies and pump station alarms as required.
· Monitors emergency generators and ensures their maintenance schedules are followed. Successful emergency generator operation is a requirement.
· Performs maintenance on shop equipment, maintains and cleans assigned work vehicle.
· Respond to call back after working hours for emergencies and “on-call” duties as required.
· Ability to strategically plan and implement pressure zone operations and interactions.
· Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED, supplemented by three years of experience that includes demonstrated proficiency in the operation / maintenance of pump station equipment in a distribution system. Or: Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for the position.
· Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Drivers License. Colorado Class A CDL including appropriate endorsement(s) or the ability to obtain one is preferable.
· Must successfully pass a criminal and driving background check and drug screen.
· Must be able to furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
· Must possess the ability to effectively communicate the English language both verbally and in writing.
· Must possess the ability to consistently prioritize changing needs and multiple tasks.
Knowledge of:
· District policies, rules, regulations and procedures related to position.
· Principles, practices and methods of operating and maintaining distribution pump station facilities and equipment.
· Installation, programming, testing and repair of electrical equipment.
· Methods, materials, equipment and tools used in the maintenance and operation of pump station facilities.
· Operating principles of valves, pumps, motors and water.
· Regulations and industry standards for the distribution of potable water.
· Safe work practices.
· Common public relations courtesies, practices and techniques.
· A working knowledge of computer systems and programs including: Microsoft Office ( Outlook, Word, Excel).
Ability to:
· Prepare and maintain detailed and precise records of work performed in electronic format.
· Interpret SCADA charts, data, gauges, and measuring devices.
· Perform various types of electrical operations under many conditions.
· Understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
· Perform electrical calculations.
· Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
· Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
· Proficiently use computers and applicable software.
· Initiate and maintain effective safety practices that relate to the nature of the work.
Experience:
Three years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of pump stations in a distribution system including a knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment related to a water utility desired.
Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent with training in pump and electrical maintenance, operation and repair.

1. Stand and walk or sit alternatively depending of the specific needs of the day. Estimate 90% of time is spent standing outside and 10% of time is spent in the office or shop.
2. Constant need to perform the following physical activities: bend/stoop/squat, climb, dig, push or pull, reach above shoulders.
3. Lifting/carrying approximately 50 pounds frequently.
4. Vision requirements: constant need to read manuals, reports, contracts, complete forms and view computer screen.
5. Hearing requirements: constant need to communicate in person.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the individual regularly works in an outdoor environment and does work near moving mechanical parts. Nature of the work means that individual may have to work while wet in an outdoor environment. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
