Job Description

Loveland Housing Authority is seeking candidates to fill the Senior Accountant position. The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the overall fiscal management of LHA. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation, budgeting, audits, and grant management.


This is a full-time regular exempt position with a hiring range of $70,000 to $75,000 per year depending upon experience. In addition, this position is offered a benefits package which includes health, vision, dental, and life insurance, a short- and long-term disability plan, a cafeteria plan, a generous paid time off policy, paid holidays, a 457(b)-retirement plan with employer match, an Employee Assistance Program, and a yearly bonus plan at the discretion of the Board of Director’s.


Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in governmental or nonprofit accounting. Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (no major violations within the last 3 years) and be insurable through our insurance carriers.

Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant position plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and the overall fiscal management of LHA. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation, budgeting, audits, and grant management.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and federal/state regulations.
  • Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
  • Coordinate and prepare documentation for annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Manage grant accounting, including tracking expenditures, reporting, and compliance with funding requirements.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations related to public housing and affordable housing programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff and other departments regarding financial procedures and best practices.
  • Cultivate positive and productive partnerships with internal colleagues by facilitating open communication, aligning goals, and promoting a culture of mutual support to drive organizational success.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance financial operations and internal controls.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and fund accounting principles.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and audit coordination.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of HUD regulations and affordable housing finance is a plus.

Education and/or Experience Required/Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in governmental or nonprofit accounting.

Driver’s License and Background Check:

· Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (no major violations within the past three years) and be insurable through Loveland Housing Authority insurance carriers.

· A criminal history and motor vehicle background check is required.


Working Environment

Work is generally performed in an office environment that may require sitting for extended periods of time, repetitive keyboard motion, reaching, bending, and kneeling. Light physical effort may be required by moving and positioning objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or 10 pounds frequently. Occasionally work will be performed in the field, which may include navigating properties and inclement weather. Work is generally completed during normal office hours but may occasionally include evenings and weekends.
