Position Title: Senior Buyer

Compensation and Benefits:

· Salary range is $80,000 - $95,000

· Benefits include bonus potential, health, dental and vision insurance, 401k with 4% company match, equity shares, sick and vacation leave


Position Summary:

The Senior Buyer will focus on tactical procurement, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of raw materials and packaging. This role is primarily responsible for managing day-to-day purchasing activities, vendor relationships, and ensuring that procurement aligns with production schedules. The Senior Buyer will also contribute to maintaining supplier quality and performance while controlling costs. Additionally, the role includes fostering growth and development within the procurement function.

This position necessitates physically being present at the company's office location, it is suited for a hands-on detail-oriented professional with a focus on process creation and quantitative reporting.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Execute day-to-day procurement of raw materials, packaging, and supplies to meet production requirements. Ensure that purchases are made in line with operational needs and schedules, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and quality.

· Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers and vendors. Ensure timely deliveries and resolve any issues related to supply chain disruptions, quality concerns, or delays. Negotiate short-term contracts and purchase orders to secure favorable terms.

· Manage the creation and processing of purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment. Track orders and ensure material availability aligns with production demand forecasts and inventory levels.

· Collaborate with the production and central planning teams to ensure optimal inventory levels. Adjust orders as necessary to avoid overstocking or shortages that could disrupt production.

· Monitor material costs and seek opportunities to reduce expenses without compromising quality. Analyze pricing trends and communicate potential cost impacts to Supply team leadership.

· Track and evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and pricing. Provide feedback to suppliers and address any performance issues to ensure continuous improvement.

· Assist in managing supplier contracts, ensuring compliance with terms, and renegotiating when necessary. Support the VP of Supply Chain in maintaining strong contractual agreements that meet company standards.

· Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. Implement best practices for order management and vendor communications.

· Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and inventory status. Provide regular updates for management on procurement activities, supplier performance, and cost-saving opportunities.

· Work closely with production, quality, and finance teams to ensure that procurement activities are well-coordinated and align with business needs. Communicate effectively across departments to address any procurement-related challenges.

· Develop and implement purchasing schedules to ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of raw materials, packaging, and other necessary items for production.

· Work closely with the Inventory and Production teams to monitor inventory levels and ensure that materials are available to meet production schedules while minimizing excess stock.

· Develop order guides based on demand-based inventory.

· Track and manage packaging and commodity stock in offsite warehouses.

· Ensure all purchased goods meet the company’s quality standards and comply with industry regulations, including FDA, and other relevant food safety standards.

· Work with leadership in identifying potential risks in the supply chain, such as shortages or price fluctuations, and assist in developing contingency plans to mitigate these risks.

· Develop KPI’s per period related to cost savings, negotiated savings, on-time in-full delivery rate, supplier defect rate, supplier lead time, inventory turn ratio, stockout rates, and inventory accuracy.

· Maintain accurate records of purchasing activities, including supplier performance, cost analysis, and inventory levels. Provide regular reports and insights to senior management.

Marginal Duties Performed Less Frequently: Perform other duties, as needed


Supervisory Responsibility: This position manages the Procurement Supervisor


Qualifications / Education / Experience Desired:

· Proven experience in tactical procurement, preferably in the food production or manufacturing industry.

· Strong vendor and supplier management skills, with a focus on maintaining quality and cost control.

· Familiarity with inventory management, planning, and procurement processes.

· Ability to negotiate short-term contracts and purchase orders to achieve favorable terms.

· Experience managing or mentoring a small team is preferred.

Education / Experience Desired:

Education

· Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related field. (Preferred but not required)

· Professional certifications such as Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are a plus.

Experience

· Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in the food manufacturing or food production industry.

· Proven experience managing supplier relationships, including contract negotiations and vendor performance evaluations.

· Experience in raw materials and packaging procurement, with a strong understanding of inventory management and demand planning.

· Familiarity with FDA and food safety regulations related to procurement in food production.

· Previous experience with ERP systems and procurement software

· Demonstrated ability to identify and implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality.

· Strong leadership experience, including managing or mentoring a small team.

· Proven track record of managing complex procurement processes and working cross-functionally with departments like production, quality, and finance.

Language / Mathematical / Reasoning Ability:

· Must be able to write and speak, both clearly and effectively.

· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

· Use various data systems to conduct quantitative search, data analysis, data mining, data collection, and reporting

· Strong proficiency in procurement software and tools, and ability to maintain accurate records.

· Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

· Strong math skills required
