Our client has a unique opportunity for professionals in the construction and design industry. This position supports steel and mass timber construction management activities through pre-construction services, estimating, and assisting structural engineers with constructability and cost assessments. This is an in-person position at one of the Colorado offices (Loveland, Golden, Carbondale), with occasional travel between locations as needed.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and expertise in estimating and preconstruction processes. Responsibilities include conceptual estimating, value engineering, design coordination, and collaborating in a team-oriented environment. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed take-offs and quantity surveys for structural steel, mass timber, and miscellaneous metals, integrating preconstruction considerations using tools such as Revit, Bluebeam, Excel, and proprietary Cost Modeling software
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to develop a complete scope of work, considering both structural engineering and preconstruction aspects
- Develop plans for logistics, including site constraints, schedule, sequencing, and safety, while implementing innovative construction methods to improve efficiency
- Collaborate with structural engineers, architects, fabricators, erectors, and general contractors, providing input during the design phase to optimize project costs, schedule, and constructability
- Assist with value engineering and identify potential field and fabrication challenges
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier capabilities, techniques, and quotes, negotiating optimal pricing and terms while identifying value engineering opportunities
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and industry professionals to enhance the preconstruction process
- Ensure compliance with building codes and verify estimating efforts align with regulations
- Actively participate in a collaborative team environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management
- High attention to detail and thoroughness
- Self-starter with a problem-solving mindset, growth-oriented, and curious
- Familiarity with standard commercial building codes
- Experience with Revit or a willingness to learn
- Proficiency in standard business software such as Outlook, Excel, and Bluebeam
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 3 years of structural engineering experience or 4 years of estimating experience related to steel structures and miscellaneous metals
- Experience in a preconstruction/estimating role for commercial steel projects
- Master’s degree with an emphasis in structures or experience estimating steel buildings
- Experience working for a steel fabrication or erection company
- Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam
